The Indian students are dressed for a pageant honoring the nation's heroes on Indian Citizen Day, 1892. Among those portrayed are Christopher Columbus, Pocahontas, George Washington, and, in the center, a student draped in the American flag, as Columbia, a symbol of the Republic.
