PROGRESSIVE PARTY SOUVENIR BANDANA
This red bandana is a campaign souvenir from 1912, the year Theodore Roosevelt’s followers broke with Republicans to form the new Progressive Party. The progressive reform movement began at the grass roots, growing out of the crises of the 1890s to emerge full-blown in 1900. Roosevelt became the Progressives’ champion, challenging laissez-faire liberalism and arguing for government action to ensure social justice. Collection of Janice L. and David J. Frent.
