A fragment is a group of words that is missing one or more parts of a complete sentence: a subject, a verb, or a complete thought.
SENTENCE | I was hungry, so I ate some cold pizza and drank a soda. |
FRAGMENT |
I was hungry, so I ate some cold pizza. And drank a soda. [And drank a soda contains a verb (drank) but no subject.] |
To find fragments in your own writing, look for the five trouble spots in this chapter. When you find a fragment in your own writing, you can usually correct it in one of two ways.
