For more on writing critically about readings, see “Writing Critically about Readings.”
After reading, take a few minutes to look back and review. Go over your guiding question, your marginal notes, and your questions — and connect with what you have read. Consider, “What interested me? What did I learn? How does it fit with what I know from other sources?” When you have reviewed your reading in this way and fixed it well in your mind and memory, it is much easier to respond in class discussion and writing. To write about a reading, you need to generate and organize your ideas, draft and revise your response, and above all, use your critical thinking skills.
