Volunteers and a park ranger canoe through mangroves in Biscayne National Park located just south of Miami, Florida. Originally slated to be included in the Everglades National Park, the Biscayne Bay area was cut from the proposed plan to make it easier to approve the formation of Everglades National Park. It achieved national park status itself in 1980.
