On June 1, 1995, a hog-waste storage lagoon collapsed at Oceanview Farms in Onslow County, North Carolina, sending millions of gallons of wastewater into fields and streams. Bulldozers plugged the huge hole with dirt to stop the spillage. The state attorney general's office said that the farm responsible for this, the worst agricultural waste spill in North Carolina history, should close because the farm continues to flaunt state regulations.
