China looks for alternative sources of energy
Synopsis
China, being one of the world’s top emitters of greenhouse gases, is taking steps towards renewable energy production. With the growth of wind turbines over the years, China is now producing about 10% of the world’s installed wind power. While wind power holds a lot of potential, it still has its setbacks, as wind farms are often located in remote areas away from established electrical grids. Despite this, China may soon be a global leader in renewable energy production.

Watch the video and answer the following questions:
While China is a global leader in the amount of energy generated through wind power, it is also a leader in the amount of energy generated through hydropower. Based on the overview that chapter 23 gives of these two technologies, discuss 2-3 benefits of producing electricity by 1) harnessing the power of wind, and 2) harnessing the power of water. As is often the case with environmental issues, there are trade-offs: What are 2-3 drawbacks or concerns associated with each of these two electricity producing technologies?
