Ocean acidification threatens marine life (June 2010)
Synopsis
Our oceans are becoming more acidic from absorbing CO2, creating a huge threat to biodiversity. CO2 slows down the calcification of corals and mollusks. One in particular, the sea snail, risks to lose its shell, which absorbs the CO2 the snail's body has ingested. Therefore, loss of the snail’s shell will affect not only biodiversity, but global warming as well.
