Women are more likely than men to respond to stress with a “tend-and-befriend” style in which they seek out social contact and cooperative relationships. The commonality of this response style may partly explain the success of the television show Sex and the City, in which four young women helped one another through many difficult times (the fabulous outfits didn’t hurt either).
