Even years after leaving home in Pontito, Italy, painter Franco Magnani was able to create a near-perfect reproduction of what he’d seen there. Magnani’s painting (left), based on a memory of a place he hadn’t seen for years, is remarkably similar to the photograph (right) Susan Schwartzenberg took of the actual scene.
