Hollywood Stereotypes
The late Heath Ledger plays the “Joker” in The Dark Knight (2008). Movie characters like the Joker, whom Ledger described as a “psychopathic, mass-murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy” (Lyall, 2007, November 4, para. 13), tend to perpetuate stereotypes about people with psychological disorders, most of whom are not violent (Arkowitz & Lilienfeld, 2011, July/August; Fazel et al., 2009).
