Psychologists Who Prescribe
Psychotropic medications are typically prescribed by psychiatrists, but a small number of psychologists have prescription privileges as well. New Mexico, Louisiana, and Illinois have passed laws giving psychologists the green light to prescribe, provided they have a master’s degree in psychopharmacology and adequate in-field training. The same is true for psychologists working in the Defense Department or Indian Health Services.
