Obesity Epidemic
More than a third of U.S. adults are obese, meaning they have a body mass index (BMI) greater than or equal to 30 (Ogden et al., 2014). Obesity has become a worldwide phenomenon, affecting countries as far-flung as Canada and Iran. Some researchers suspect the problem is related to the growing availability of cheap, processed, and well-marketed food (Swinburn et al., 2011).
