Love and Marriage
Comedian Wanda Sykes (left) and her wife, Alex Sykes, were married in 2008, when same-sex marriage was banned throughout most of the country (Jordan, 2009, May 13). In 2015, the Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage across the nation, a legal shift that seems to parallel the changing attitudes of Americans. Between 2004 and 2015, support for same-sex marriage grew from 30% to 59% (Hook, 2015, March 9).
