In this clip, Tony’s dream of being a jockey and what became of his dream is explored. Consider the influence of the dream on Tony’s development.

One of the enduring themes woven throughout the study of child development is the notion of the active child and how children shape their own development. Identify three ways in which Tony actively shaped his own development.

Consider the fact that Tony left school to pursue his dream of being a jockey, thereby selecting the environment in which much of his development would take place. Consider also how Tony’s own characteristics may have shaped this environment. For instance, how might his development been different if he had been a winning jockey?
