United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement
[video]
The following video is a “trailer” for iGuardians, a joint project between the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children that seeks to raise children’s awareness of Internet safety and protect them from child predators online. In addition to providing resources online, the iGuardians project also gives school presentations about Internet safety. This clip introduces the iGuardians project as if it were staffed by a group of superheroes, and it employs many tropes of the superhero genre (including the requisite heroic music) as well as certain special ops police TV and film genres (24, Alias, or CSI). As you watch, think about why the makers of the clip decided to invoke genres of heroism to appeal to kids.
