Figure 2-23  RIVUXG Using Adaptive Optics to “Unblur” Telescope Images These two false-color images show the same view of our Milky Way Galaxy’s core at infrared wavelengths as observed with the 10.0-m Keck II telescope near the summit of Mauna Kea, Hawaii (see Figure 2-28). Without adaptive optics, it is nearly impossible to distinguish individual stars in this region. With adaptive optics turned on, numerous stars can be distinguished and studied.
