In this section, you will find four short stories: “The Story of an Hour,” by Kate Chopin; “Araby,” by James Joyce; “The Use of Force,” by William Carlos Williams; and “Girl” by Jamaica Kincaid. Each is followed by questions to help you get started analyzing the story. The stories are intended for use with the “Practicing the Genre: Analyzing a Story Collaboratively” activity on p. 458. Your instructor may also ask you to choose one of these stories for your essay analyzing a story.
