On December 24, 1971, Juliane Koepcke and her mother were flying back to their home in the Peruvian jungle. Their plane was hit by lightning, and broke apart. Juliane, seventeen, was the only survivor. In Sally William’s article and in the audio interview below, Koepcke describes the plane crash and her struggle to survive in the jungle.
