Find a place on your campus or in the larger community that has plenty of interesting things to observe and that serves a specific purpose. Some possibilities: a research lab, a yoga (or other exercise) center, the food court in a shopping area or campus building, a band rehearsal space. Set up a time (getting permission, if necessary) to visit and closely observe the place; to interview people who work there or otherwise make use of the space; and, if possible, to take photographs or make video clips of the place and the people you interviewed. Following the model of the New York Times article, try to tell a story about the place, integrating background details, quotations, and photographs or video clips into your writing.
