The clip from Dirty Jobs, like many educational videos and documentaries, interweaves narrative and topical organization. On the narrative side, the clip provides some background on Skulls Unlimited and what it does. Mostly, however, the clip is topically organized as it moves from one skull-cleaning method to another.

Write one or two paragraphs analyzing the structure of the “Skull Cleaner” episode from Dirty Jobs:

  1. Do you think that the narrator and videographer have struck the right balance between narrative and topical structure? If not, what changes would you have recommended?
  2. What additional information might viewers need to understand or appreciate the profile? For example, do you think that the narrator has provided enough background on who wants the skulls and why? If not, what other details would you like to have had? Conversely, if you find the narrator’s voice-over or other elements intrusive, explain why.
