Whether online commenters have a right to anonymity is one of a number of controversies that have arisen from the Internet. As a relatively young and evolving technology platform, the Internet regularly sparks debates over who has the right to do what in which ways. For example, Internet users, musicians and other artists, media companies, and legislators have quite different views about the degree to which file sharing should be allowed and about whether it hurts or helps content producers. Additionally, Internet stakeholders continue to debate whether “Net neutrality” should be protected. (Net neutrality means that Internet service providers, business interests, and governments place no restrictions on—or, on the other hand, give preferential treatment to—particular types of content, Web sites, modes of access, and so on.) Choose one of these issues or another controversy related to the Internet, and take a position on it.
