An effective proposal to solve a problem must anticipate readers’ potential objections and alternative solutions. TempoHousing’s overview of the Keetwonen project anticipates objections to using shipping containers for housing. As the overview says, “The initial fears of some people that the container homes would be too small, too noisy, too cold or too hot, all turned out to be unfounded: they turned out to be spacious, quiet and well insulated and certainly offer value for [the] money, compared to other student homes in the city.”

ANALYZE & WRITE

Write one or two paragraphs analyzing other ways that TempoHousing addresses potential objections to its housing solution, and consider alternative solutions:

  1. Write a few sentences about your own expectations for a dormitory room. (If you have ever lived in a dorm, you might draw on your own experiences.)
  2. Look at the description of the dormitory and the photos of the “Professor” model. Does this model meet, exceed, or fall short of your expectations? Be specific.
