Write one or two paragraphs analyzing how Wang supports her argument through contrasts:

  1. Skim paragraphs 9–11, 20, and 22, noting the contrasts that Wang identifies between American parenting and parenting in other cultures. (Hint: You might use one color to highlight the information on American families and another to highlight the information on families from other cultures.)
  2. Write about how these contrasts help support Wang’s argument. Does she provide enough evidence that parenting practices among Americans, in contrast to parenting practices in other countries, constitute a cause of dependency in children?
