Chapter 18: Communicating in Other Media

CHAPTER 18
Communicating in Other Media

CONNECT: How can you work well with others on a wiki or other collaborative project? Chapter 6, 18b

CREATE: Working with friends or classmates, choose a wiki entry that you know about and are interested in, and revise or add to it to make it more useful to others.

REFLECT: Respond to Working with other people.

ARECENT SURVEY conducted for this book identified over forty kinds of multimodal or multimedia projects that writing instructors across the country are assigning to their students: not just PowerPoint and Prezi presentations but annotated playlists, blogs, comics, product pitches, live tweets, video essays, wikis, and more. Student writers seem to like and appreciate such assignments, saying that they provide room for creative control and for self-expression. As communicating with media becomes more common and even more necessary in your life, it’s important to think carefully about your goals and your audiences—as well as about how to accomplish and reach them most effectively, no matter what kind of project you are creating.
