Once you’ve outlined the body, introduction, and conclusion, you will want to create transitions to connect the parts of your speech. A transition is a sentence that indicates you are moving from one idea to another. Transitions are especially helpful in the following places:
- Between the introduction and your first main point
- Between each main point
- Between the final main point and the conclusion
Here are some examples of transitions:
- “First, let’s talk about . . .” (transition from introduction to first main point)
- “Now that we’ve considered . . . , let’s move on to . . .” (transition between two main points)
- “This completes our discussion of . . .” (transition from final main point to conclusion)
