Set Up Your Interview

If possible, contact potential interview subjects in person. (It’s far easier for busy people to say no to an interview request via e-mail or over the telephone than face-to-face.) Identify yourself, explain that you’re preparing a speech, and describe what you hope to learn from the interview. Be prepared to answer any questions the interviewee may have about you or the speech you’re researching. Finally, be willing to accommodate the person’s schedule.
