The Word to Know: Class
The Oxford English Dictionary defines class as “a division or stratum of society consisting of people at the same economic level or having the same social status. A system of ordering society whereby people are divided into strata of this type; the pattern of social division created by such a system; a person’s position in society as defined by this.” In a paragraph, compare caste in India to slavery in Rome.
