Review Chapters 3–5 and answer the following questions to try to place the events of the three thematic chapters into the larger context of the era.
How do the individual changes that happened at this time in Eurasia and Northern Africa reflect larger global patterns? Think about the slavery in Rome and the existence of slavery elsewhere at the same time. Why has this labor system persisted to the present day?
How did religious beliefs as well as local practice help to reinforce the patriarchy that emerged across the Eurasian continent?
