The Word to Know: Globalization
The Oxford English Dictionary defines globalization as “the action, process, or fact of making global; esp. (in later use) the process by which businesses or other organizations develop international influence or start operating on an international scale, widely considered to be at the expense of national identity.” While some would argue that globalization is a twenty-first century phenomenon, the evidence in the chapter makes the case that globalization was in place in the eastern hemisphere between 500 C.E. and 1500 C.E. Write a brief paragraph detailing this evidence.
