Examining Sources for Bias
Examine each of the following sources and their annotations. Discuss whether the source is likely to be objective (O), somewhat biased (SB), or heavily biased (HB).
1. Roleff, Tamara L., editor. Gun Control: Opposing Viewpoints. Greenhaven Press, 2007.
This book contains several articles that present the pros and cons of different issues relating to gun control. The articles are written by experts and give bibliographic references.
2. Malcolm X. The Autobiography of Malcolm X. Ballantine Books, 1965.
Malcolm X tells his life story in this autobiography, which was published just before his death.
3. Green, Amy. “Missions Boot Camp.” Christianity Today vol. 52, no. 2, Feb. 2008, www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2008/march/.
This article describes a summer camp for young people heading off on mission trips.
4. Fink, George, editor. Encyclopedia of Stress. Academic Press, 2007.
Four volumes of in-depth coverage related to the psychology and physiology of stress.
