Correcting Errors in Use of Parentheses and Brackets
Correct the errors in the use of parentheses or brackets in the following sentences. Some sentences may be correct as written.
1. Nathan Hale regretted that he had “but one life to give for (his) country.”
2. The Committee for Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal (CSICOP) tests claims of supernatural abilities.
3. Malcolm X [1925–1965] was an American political figure assassinated in the 1960s.
4. The invention of anesthesia made possible many advances in medicine (including lengthy surgery.)
5. Children believe what they see on television, (at least most of it) and therefore parents should monitor their children’s viewing.
