Correcting the Use of Gerunds and Infinitives
Correct the errors in the use of gerunds and infinitives in the following sentences. Some sentences may be correct as written.
1. Many archaeologists have considered to change the date they estimate that humans arrived in the Americas.
2. Until recently, scientists didn’t expect finding evidence of human inhabitants older than 11,000 years, the age of stone tools found in Clovis, New Mexico, in the 1930s.
3. Recently, however, after discovering older evidence in Monte Verde, Chile, and other sites, some scientists have suggested to change this date.
4. Archaeologists began to reexamine their assumptions after it was established that Monte Verde was older than the Clovis site.
5. One site in Virginia may be over 15,000 years old, and archaeologists who keep to dig deeper may find even older evidence.
