Chapter Review

What’s Your Question? for Chapter 19

Question

Now that you have completed the chapter, review the things you wondered about while reading to identify a topic that interested you most, an issue that puzzled you, or a point where you disagreed with the author, and then formulate your own historical question. Please write your question in the space provided and include a brief explanation about what you think this question would help you understand.Remember, a good historical question is a critical one that demands an answer beyond yes or no. The most sophisticated and useful historical questions are those that ask why and/or how. You can also consider questions that compare and contrast a topic in different locations or time periods, or questions that seek to explain the relationship between one event or historical process and another. In general, critical historical questions lead to more questions, provoke discussion, and question the assumptions made by a text’s author and audience.
