Chapter 2, Additional Exercise 6: Analyzing Engineering Ethics Cases
Developed as part of a project to help engineering faculty introduce engineering ethics into their classrooms, Texas A&M: Engineering Ethics contains a number of ethics case studies, essays on engineering ethics, and links to resources and references associated with engineering ethics. Of particular relevance to Chapter 2 are the 33 ethics cases contained in the 1992 National Science Foundation Engineering Ethics Case Report. Cases are classified into categories such as conflicts of interest, honesty and truthfulness, organizational communication, and quality control and product liability. Read several of the cases, noting how the lack of clear, honest communication of technical information may have contributed to what went wrong. Present your findings in a 500-word memo to your instructor. (See Chapter 14 for a discussion of memos.)
