Chapter 6, Additional Exercise 6: Assembling a Research Guide for New Students

Information sources for students in your major are changing so rapidly that new students need a current guidebook describing how to carry out research. The chair of your department has asked your group to assemble a guidebook that can be distributed at the library and the department office. Each member of the group might concentrate on one of the following tasks:

  1. interviewing professors for their suggestions about the best sources of information for undergraduate majors
  2. using the printed information in the library: dictionaries, directories, handbooks, specialized encyclopedias, indexes, and so forth
  3. using the electronic resources in the library: online databases and CD-ROMs
  4. using the web

Compile your findings into a guidebook. Be sure to submit the electronic file to your instructor so that it can be updated, because this version will be out of date by next semester.
