Chapter 10, Additional Exercise 1: Analyzing the Plain English Handbook
A Plain English Handbook: How to Create Clear SEC Disclosure Documents is the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's official statement on how to write simply and plainly. Does it practice what it preaches? Study a page from the handbook, identifying three ways in which the authors follow their own guidelines for clear writing. Is there anything in the page that you think violates a guideline presented in Chapter 10 or Appendix, Part C, of your textbook? Be prepared to share your findings with the class.
