When George Washington returned from his first mission to the French, Governor Robert Dinwiddie asked him to write a full report of what he had seen of the countryside, the Indians, and French troop strength. Dinwiddie printed Washington’s report, along with his own letter and the French commander’s defiant answer, in a thirty-two-page pamphlet that was soon reprinted in London. Huntington Library.
