How is the creative process of writing a novel different from making a movie? Which would you rather do, and why?

It is not too unusual for writers of novels to generate friction with screenwriters, directors, and producers when their books are made into movies. What are some of the reasons for this? Who do you think has the greatest claim to creative control?
