Comparison and Contrast: Real-World Writers

They are different ways of learning to write, they are tools we can give our students, whether we use these tools, fictionally or non-fictionally. I know that I rely a lot on comparison and contrast in my writing. Comparison and contrast thematically becomes important. It creates a whole pattern in the novel, about things that are juxtaposed against each other. And if I didn't know comparison and contrast, whether intuitively or whether through reading about it and studying it, I couldn't have done it. So I think all of the rhetorical modes are very important. When characters are speaking often they're using persuasion.

We read journals upon journals and a lot of articles and papers and then we have to pick out what's relevant to our project. And those are the things we'll use to compare and contrast various points.

A lot of this documentary is about kind of what happened before, but to contrast it to how is it now? If I didn't give the history, how could it be contrasted? There wouldn't be a contrast. Unless you were sitting at home and you knew everything about South Africa.
