Student Voices: Majors & Careers
(Group 2)
|
[00:00:00.64] I have family members who have pursued a career. And I believe
that if any other women out there is doing it, why can't I? It's independence. It's
a way to feel like you're making a difference. And here there are a lot of
people who speak English, and I'm able to speak two languages which makes it a
little more interesting for me. Because I could help people like myself. |
[00:00:29.43] I plan to transfer for fashion merchandising and marketing. I
knew I wanted to do this, because I'm very into clothes and fashion and art.
And I eventually want to be a stylist. Because I like helping people, and I
like making them feel good about themselves, and really helping them about
their self confidence. |
[00:00:52.19] Actually, I actually thought about doing that too. Coming out
of high school, I was still unsure of what I wanted to do. Right now, I'm about
to graduate and I'm still unsure of what I want to do. But I'm glad I did pick
liberal arts just to get-- |
[00:01:08.18] Well rounded. |
[00:01:08.98] Yeah, justification of everything else. And actually, it's,
kind of, helping me along because by testing out different classes in different
areas I actually found something that I'm interested in which is my sign
language classes. Which this college offers a program in. You can get certified
later on. But that's actually something I'm looking into doing next year after
I graduate and following through with that. But, I mean, just coming out you
really don't know sometimes what you want to do. So exploring options is very
important when you're coming to college. And even if you're sure about what
you're going to do, a lot of people do change it after they explore their
options. |
[00:01:51.04] I know that there's an FBI station in Red Bank. And I have
been taking an introduction to corrections class at the moment. And I've been
aware of all the complications with juveniles and sex offenders, and I'm also
thinking about maybe trying to an internship there. I'm asking my professors
for a letter of recommendation, because it's always better to do more than one
in different areas. |
[00:02:21.07] Luckily, I was able to coach just this past summer. So that's
also something I would like to go into teaching and then maybe from teaching, I
can be a coach. |
[00:02:32.76] I'm looking at when I look at my colleges for transferring,
I'm looking at what types of internships that they provide. Also, I really want
to study abroad. So I look at which ones will help me after college into a
career that I'll like, that won't just once you graduate they don't help you.
They just you're on your own. One that'll help provide me with the career I
want. |
[00:02:57.07] I actually just sat down with my adviser for transferring. We
help set up what classes I'll need to transfer. You have to look at the college
to see what credits will transfer, because you don't want to waste your time
paying money for classes that are going to end up not meaning anything when you
get to college. You have to have a good GPA to help you. You can use that to
get you scholarships, help pay for college. Your grades have to be high. |
