FEMALE STUDENT 1: I have family members who have pursued the career. And I believe that if any other woman out there is doing it, why can't I? It's independent. It's a way to feel like you're making a difference. And here that a lot of people just speak English and I'm able to speak two languages makes it a little more interesting for me, because I could help people like myself.
FEMALE STUDENT 2: I plan to transfer for fashion merchandising and marketing. I knew I wanted to do this because I'm very into clothes, and fashion, and art. And I eventually want to be a stylist. Because I like helping people and I like making them feel good about their selves and really helping them about their self-confidence.
FEMALE STUDENT 3: Actually I actually thought about doing that too. Coming out of high school, I was still unsure--
FEMALE STUDENT 2: Unsure.
FEMALE STUDENT 3: --of what I wanted to do. Right now I'm about to graduate and I'm still unsure of what I want to do. But I'm glad I did pick liberal arts so just to get--
FEMALE STUDENT 2: Well-rounded.
FEMALE STUDENT 3: --yeah, a justification of everything else. And actually it is helping me along. Because by testing out different classes and different areas, I actually found something that I'm interested in, which is my sign language classes, which this college offers a program in. You can get certified later on. But that's actually something I'm looking into doing next year after I graduate and following through with that.
But just coming out, you really don't know sometimes what you want to do. So exploring options is very important thing when you're coming into college. Even if you're sure about what you're going to do, a lot of people do change it after they explore their options.
FEMALE STUDENT 1: I know there's a FBI station in Red Bank. And I'm taking an introduction to corrections class at the moment. And I've been aware of all of the complications with juveniles and sex offenders. And I'm also thinking about maybe trying to do an internship there, asking my professors for letter of recommendations. Because it's always better to do more than one in different areas.
FEMALE STUDENT 3: Luckily, I was able to coach just this past summer. So that's also something I would like to go into, teaching. And then maybe if I'm teaching I can do-- be a coach.
FEMALE STUDENT 2: I'm looking at-- when I look at my colleges for transferring-- I'm looking at what types of internships that they provide. Also, I really want to study abroad. So I look at which ones will help me after college into a career that I'll like that won't just once you graduate they don't help you, they just-- you're on your own-- one that will help provide me with a career I want.
I actually just sat down with my advisor for transferring. We helped set up what classes I'll need to transfer. You have to look at the college to see what credits will transfer, because you don't want to waste your time paying money for classes that are going to end up not meaning anything when you get to college.
You have to have a good GPA to help you. You can use that to get you scholarships, help pay for college. Your grades have to be high.
