Asking questions as you draft
C-54
Keep these questions in mind as you draft the body of your essay:
- What does your thesis or purpose statement promise readers?
- What question are you trying to answer?
- What problem are you trying to solve?
- What is your position on the topic?
You want to orient each paragraph or section to your purpose for writing. As you move from one point to the next, you want to maintain focus and connection.
You also want to keep anticipating what your readers need to know and when they need to know it. So you have to establish shared understanding before you advance to new ideas.
