Quick Help:Understanding the difference between adjectives and adverbs
To tell adjectives and adverbs apart, identify the word’s function in the sentence.
Adjectives modify nouns and pronouns, answering the question which? how many? or what kind?
Adverbs modify verbs, adjectives, other adverbs, or entire clauses; they answer the question how? when? where? or to what extent?
Many adverbs are formed by adding -ly to adjectives (slight, slightly), but many are not (outdoors, very). And some words that end in -ly are adjectives (lovely, homely).
