Editing for pronoun-antecedent agreement
Check all subjects joined by and, or, or nor to be sure they are treated as singular or plural, as appropriate. Recast any sentence in which agreement creates awkwardness.
Check all uses of anyone, each, everybody, many, and other indefinite pronouns (see list in 40e) to be sure they are treated as singular or plural, as appropriate.
If you find he, his, or him used to refer to persons of either sex, revise the pronouns, or recast the sentences altogether. (41g)
