P3: The semicolon and the colon

P3The semicolon and the colon

The semicolon is used to connect major sentence elements of equal grammatical rank (P3-a and P3-b). The semicolon is sometimes used incorrectly to connect unequal elements (P3-c). The colon is used primarily to call attention to the words that follow it (P3-d). In addition, the colon has some conventional uses (P3-f).
