And many older adults seem to feel that the trend of moving back home after school, which was rare in their day, is becoming too commonplace today. But society must realize that a cultural shift is taking place. Most young adults want to live on their own as soon as possible, but they graduate with large amounts of debt and need some time to become financially stable. College tuition and the cost of housing have increased far beyond the pace of salary increases in the past fifty years. Also, the job market is tighter and more jobs require advanced degrees than in the past. So before people criticize college graduates who temporarily move back into their parents’ house, they must consider all the facts.
