In your school’s newspaper or in a local newspaper, search for an editorial on a topic that interests you. (An editorial is an opinion article published on a newspaper’s or magazine’s editorial page.) Take notes on the editorial using the questions in section A1-b. Then put the author’s thesis to the “So what?” test (see section A1-a). Follow the guidelines for analyzing a text in section A1-d and the writing guide in section A1-e to help you develop your own analysis of the editorial. Write your notes below—these will be a first step in looking at the article analytically.
