Explain

  • Follow the guidelines for the appropriate Web source.

  • Do not italicize the title of the chapter or section.

  • After the title of the section, write “In” and give the title of the document, italicized.

  • If the source has page numbers, include page numbers for the chapter or section in parentheses.

  • If the article has a DOI (digital object identifier), use the DOI in place of any other retrieval information.

  • If the article has no DOI, give the URL for the section or the home page of the document.

  • Use a retrieval date only if the source is likely to change.

Note on breaking URLs and DOIs

  • If you must break a URL or a DOI at the end of a line, break it after a double slash or before any other mark of punctuation.

  • Do not add a hyphen.

  • Do not put a period at the end of the entry.
