In business, your purpose and your understanding of your audience will determine the questions you ask as you prepare to write.
If you are writing a proposal to persuade a client to adopt a product, you will ask, “How will this product benefit my client?” “What does my client need?”
If you are assigned a report to inform your supervisor of your progress on a project, you will ask, “What does my supervisor need to know to authorize me to proceed?” You will also want to ask, “What does my supervisor already know?” “How can I target this report to address my supervisor’s specific concerns?”
If you are applying for a job, you will ask, “What qualifications do I have for this job?”
